3 Fishing Activities Based on Its Purpose

lauttimur.com - Fishing is the activity to catch fish that are caught from their wild environment or stocked bodied of water like lake, ponds, and canals. There are many fishing techniques that has been used to catch the fish. The fishing gear also differ depend on the targeted species. As an activity fishing has been divided into 3 categories based on their purpose and its scale. Let’s take a look at this explanation of each purpose below:

 

•    Recreational Fishing
Recreational fishing or often called as sport fishing or game fishing, is a fishing activity for leisure, exercise or competition. The most common form of recreational fishing is angling, which is done with fishing gear like a rog of rod, reel, line, hooks and wide range of baits. The fishing gear also can be equipped by weights, floats, swivels and methods feeders, which collectively called a fishing tackle

 

Popular fish that pursued by recreational fisher are known as game fishes. Big game fishing mostly targets large open-water fishes like tuna, marlins or swordfish, grouper and barracuda. Although this fish can be consumed, most of the recreational fishers will release the catch back into the water.

•    Subsistence and Small-scale Fishing
In some part of the world, especially coastal and islands communities in developing countries, fishing can be one of the only sources of food and money. Therefore, fishing activity is important in food security, nutrition, and development. Most of the people who does fishing for their livelihood do so in small-scale fisheries. Many of these fishery activities have significant cultural and traditional value as well.

 

•    Commercial Fishing
Commercial fishing is the activity of catching fish or other seafood for commercial profit. This activity mostly from wild fisheries. It is providing large quantity of food for many countries in the world. Large-scale commercial fishing is also known as industrial fishing. Commercial fishermen harvest a wide variety of fishes, but some of the species is a major catch in world’s fishery industry like herring, cod, tuna, salmon, anchovy, lobsters, oyster, shrimp, scallop, mullet, and squid.
